Inspired by a childhood memory of using the dinner table as the start of one child's fortress. The housing volume is lifted off of the ground, creating a covered outdoor space, where many fun memories can be recalled during a rainy day in the Pacific Northwest.
The structure is a private retreat house that serves as a transition between the busy, chaotic modern city and the peaceful, spiritual healing of being among nature. The structure provides this transition by blending the familiar modern construction materials such as steel and mechanical parts with the raw stone and earth of the site. The idea then bleeds into the landscape, where geometric shapes are broken up with natural elements.
From the private driveway, one can overlook all activities that take place in the yard below.
One will enter the resident through a brightly colored portal that directs toward the exhibition of arts and photographies.
Open view from dining table, users sitting at the table can enjoy and visually connecting to everyone in and out of the house at this location.
