Gallery House, Dallas, Texas

The subject is to design a one-bedroom house for an art collector. The site is located in a unique neighborhood, where each residence is required to provide privacy for their left side neighbor by not being able to see into their property. To solve the privacy issue, a thick wall is constructed on the left side of the building. The thick wall provides privacy, extreme insulating from the west sun and a sense of fortify. Inside the house, the exhibition space is carved out of the three feet thick wall, creating a threshold between the spaces. To negotiate with the terrain, the main living spaces are lifted off the ground leaving service spaces embedded in the sloped terrain.
